Kevin Pickering: Biography

Kevin Pickering is a filmmaker from Edinburgh, Scotland.

Kevin produces independent films, including dramas, documentaries and personal experimental films, experimenting with form and developing his own raw and unique style of filmmaking.

Kevin has built up an impressive catalogue of work, with various screenings and awards along the way. His short films tend to be concerned with the absurdities of the human condition, and share a common purpose; to make the audience think, sometimes in ways they’re not conditioned to.

Kevin was funded by the UK Film Council’s First Light Fund to make his short film Wake Me Up whilst still in High School. In 2011, Kevin was commissioned to make Risk, for the BBC and Open University. Kevin also completed a film degree at Edinburgh College of Art, graduating with Honours, in 2013. In 2015, Kevin’s short film Waylay was short listed for The Skinny Short Film Competition. In 2016 Kevin was commissioned to make Close to the Bone, for the Scottish Film Talent Network as part of the New Talent Shorts 2016 scheme. Close to the Bone premiered at the Edinburgh International Film Festival and received a Jury Special Mention. It has since collected several awards and has been licensed by the BBC. Kevin was selected for SFTN’S Shorts2Features Programme in 2017 and EIFF’S Talent Lab in 2018.
